Biography

Luis Costa is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Portuguese and Brazilian Studies. He earned a B.A. in Literary Studies, specializing in Brazilian Literature, and a "licenciatura" (teaching degree) in Brazilian Literature and Portuguese Language both from the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) in Brazil. His research interests include Brazilian Literature from the 19th and 20th centuries, especially topics of nation-building, miscegenation and social thought. Currently, he is developing a project of Oral History in Brazil's backlands (known as "sertão"). He is also looking to expand his research to other Latin American countries.
