Brown Professor Awarded Prestigious Brazilian Order of Rio Branco
In June 2025, the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty) awarded James N. Green, Professor Emeritus of Brazilian History and Culture, the Order of Rio Branco in the rank of Comendador, given to “national or foreign persons for their services or exceptional merit.”

The Fulbright Distinguished Award in Brazilian Literature at Brown University will grant one award to a Brazilian scholar who will spend one academic semester researching and/or lecturing in the Fall term 2026 (September to December) or Spring term 2027 (January to May), following Brown University’s academic calendar.
