José Santana Pereira, born in 1982, holds a PhD in Political and Social Sciences from the European University Institute (Florence, Italy), awarded in 2012. He his currently Associate Professor (with Habilitation) at ISCTE's Department of Political Science and Public Policy, Researcher at CIES-ISCTE, and the Director of the Sondagens ICS/ISCTE polling center in Lisbon, Portugal. His research focuses on media systems, media effects on public opinion, campaigns, political attitudes, and voting behavior. His work has been published in academic journals such as Electoral Studies, International Journal of Press/Politics, Journal of European Public Policy, Perspectives on European Politics and Society, South European Society and Politics, and Swiss Political Science Review. He is the author of books such as Política e Entretenimento (Politics and Entertainment; 2016) and Agenda Setting: When the Media Tells Us What to Think About (2024). He is Portuguese and Italian, married, and has two cats.
This semester, he will be teaching a course entitled Media, Entertainment and Politics in the Lusophone World.
